As a lover of hip-hop, it can be hard to navigate the world of modern rap/r&b artists especially in todays over saturated digital music landscape. Still, there are a lot of exciting things going on right now with this genre. Young rappers stepping up to the plate in a big way, tossing stereotypes and delivering some really inspired music (OFWGKTA, Lil B, Soulja Boy, Wiz). Unfortunately, its hard enough finding time to listen to music I like never mind scouring through all the crap out there. Lucky for me I’ve come across YAYODANCING, a primarily hip-hop blog run by self proclaimed “rap nerd” George Something from the Mid West? This guy is super prolific and and offers constant insight on artists through daily posts and great reviews. Plus theres a good chance he’ll answer your ???’s

A couple summers ago my friends and I organized an event in New Haven called Free 2 Be fest. Fortunately, in the face of getting shut down by local authorities, we were able to move our headlining act Lightning Bolt into the Ivy Lounge’s basement. Free 2 Be 2011 anyone?

Thank you to Rapper Juiceboxxx for linking this amazing documentary on DJ Shoulders. I’m guessing JB can see a bit of himself in this maniac. Inspired.
